The Overwatch 2 development team has recently shared an update regarding the long-awaited rework of the hero Sombra, shedding light on when fans can expect to see her revamped abilities in action.

Sombra has been a subject of controversy in the Overwatch community ever since her introduction as the second post-launch hero in the original game. With her ability to cloak, teleport, and disrupt enemy abilities through hacking, she possesses one of the most frustrating skill sets in the game.

Despite several adjustments made by the developers over the years, Sombra has remained a potent force in team-based gameplay while struggling to find consistent success in solo-queue ranked matches. However, her upcoming rework might change the tide.

During a Twitch stream, Overwatch 2 Executive Producer Jared Neuss joined content creator Emongg to discuss the game, and new heroes, and provide insights into the developers’ future plans. When the topic of Sombra arose, Neuss revealed that Blizzard has exciting plans for her but clarified that the rework won’t arrive before the end of Season 5.

“Sombra is not far away,” Neuss confirmed. “I don’t think it’s in Season 6 at this point, but I believe it’s shortly thereafter.”

This indicates that the revamped Sombra could make her appearance in Season 7, which still lies ahead as the Invasion PvE update is scheduled for August.

While the exact details of the rework have not been disclosed, Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson previously gave some hints. In April that mentioned that Sombra would become “a bit more lethal” while potentially experiencing some adjustments to her mobility.

Fans will need to exercise patience for a few more months to discover the full extent of the developers’ plans. However, they can take solace in the fact that Overwatch 2 will offer a new game mode, a new hero, and numerous other updates in the meantime.
